Murun is a pretty city of approximately 30.000 inhabitants and the capital of Huvsgul Aimag. Its inhabitants are welcoming people. Many tourists start and plan their travel from here to the North or the West due to the outstanding infrastructure. Murun has an airport and all necessary goods and health needs are available.
Unfortunately not many tourists visit the beauty of nature around the city itself much and use Murun only as pass through. The riverdelta in the west with many arms and meanders in the west are definitely worth a visit. Also hiking ( North/West) to the authentic Mongolia with plains, mountains of different hights and for differently experienced hikers/alpinists are close to reach. Guesthouses, restaurants and hotels of many categories and standards are available and this area is definitely worth to visit for a longer period of time.
The Naadam festival in Murun is one of the famous ones in Mongolia, there is a theatre, museum and to mention again, Murun is blessed with a rich and picturesque nature in it's surrounding. Summers are warm with mild nights. The city also offers furthermore a lively nightlife.
